Do you already have all the safety gear you need in your car? You might be surprised. Take a look at this list from Kevin’s Auto Repair and see if any of these items might be needed in your car.
First Aid Kit
You should definitely have a first aid kit in your car, even if it’s just a couple of bandages and a bottle of ibuprofen. You never know when you’ll need something like that while you’re away from home and it’s just good practice to have a kit with you. Start small and gradually add items if that’s easier than thinking about a full first aid kit.
Car Tools
Likewise, there are a few small tools you might find handy in your car. You probably already have a jack and tire iron, and if you don’t, now is the time to fix that issue. Some other things to add to a small tool kit for your car could include flathead and Phillips head screwdrivers, adjustable wrenches, a jump pack, and some safety items. A working flashlight, extra batteries, and a set of roadside reflectors are good ideas.
Documentation
You probably already carry your driver’s license with you, but there’s other documentation that you need to keep in your car, too. Insurance information, including roadside assistance information, is good to have. You should also have your car’s registration and anything else you might need in an accident or if you were to be pulled over. Your owner’s manual, a pen or pencil, and a small notebook are also good to keep in the car.
Blankets and Extra Clothes
You never know when you’ll need to stay warm with blankets, so keeping some old ones in the car is a good plan. You should also consider putting a few changes of clothes in the car, too, just in case. You may not need them, but at least they’re there.
Food and Water
You also never know when you’ll need non-perishable snacks and water. It’s all too common, especially in winter, to get stuck somewhere for longer than you expect. Having some food and water on hand can be a literal lifesaver.
